- <p> DIED. JERSEY JOE WALCOTT, 80, heavyweight boxing champ; in Camden,
- New Jersey. Born with the not very pugilistic-sounding name
- of Arnold Raymond Cream, Walcott--his ring name--owned the
- rare distinction of having knocked down Joe Louis three times
- over the course of two fights, both of which Walcott went on
- to lose. He finally won the heavyweight championship in 1951
- at the age of 37--the oldest man ever to attain the title.
- A year later, he lost his belt to Rocky Marciano.
